About the project
The Novatek headquarters on Leninsky Prospekt in Moscow is truly a large-scale example of a new interpretation of the architecture for offices. The building impresses with an exquisite choice of its cladding materials and a very well-thought-out form simultaneously spectacular and concise. The windows and wall piers are turned to the façade plane so that they form a wavy line. On even floors, windows and piers are turned in one direction, on odd floors and the basement in the other. Such dynamism softens the massive elements used in the building construction: six-meter single glass panels and thick slabs of Spanish BLANCO CRISTAL granite.
Lighting Objectives and Tasks
The architectural ensemble of buildings with a wave-like façade stands out against the prevalent Moscow background not only with its restrained and elegant architecture, but also with full compliance to the European design standards for energy efficiency, no wonder it has repeatedly received prestigious professional awards. The lighting emphasized the higher rank of the building without distorting its architectural proportions. The concept features a uniform façade illumination with no additional colour accents.
Project implementation
The lighting design and planning on this project commenced in 2017. To achieve the ideal result and embody the desired concept, eight field simulations were carried out. We constantly refined our ideas bringing them to perfection.
The night-mode lighting utilizes a horizontal luminaire placement and accentuating each vertical pillar. The contour lighting effect is created by IntiSLIM fittings, they are also mounted in the inter-window openings. For those very “waves”, we chose LACE as it ideally follows any complex shape of the façade. The custom-made ground LINE became an instrument for light and shadow play. The ground fittings project light onto vertical surfaces creating the effect of depth, volume and dynamism and visually highlighting the tectonics of the architectural space.
All controls for the light intensity are based on DALI from automated control and dispatching system. Control groups are connected to the system using KNX-DALI gateways. Each "driver + luminaire" set can be controlled independently at any time. The DALI protocol allows to control the luminaires by dimming them. The corresponding KNX signal can be controlled using the Schneider Electric software.
The Novatek project became the winner of the European Property Awards in the Best Architecture for Office nomination.
