September 20, 2023 at the Interlight Russia | Intelligent building Russia exhibition the winners of the Russian Lighting Design competition were announced. This year, the competition included 11 categories, and a total of 191 projects were submitted.
The NOVATEK Headquarters where we worked in close conjunction with RENEISSANCE SVET and the architectural bureau SPEECH (Sergey Choban, Igor Chlenov, Alexey Ilyin) got the first place in the category The Implemented Outdoor Lighting Project. Over five years and an incredible amount of work on this spectacular project, including lighting and engineering design and planning, two full-scale simulations outside the site and eight full-scale lighting simulations on the installed section of the façade.
The complex geometry of the building and the peculiarity of the natural stone finishing excluded the possibility of integrating the lighting equipment onto the façade, and it certainly had to be invisible. For horizontal illumination of the building's belts, the light lines of LACE with a horizontal bend were selected. This fitting made it possible to accurately replicate the geometry of the building. To illuminate the stone pylons, the linear IntiSLIM luminaires were employed, with the mounting units of each fitting customized specifically for the project. In total, more than 8 kilometers of light lines and more than 2.5 thousand linear lighting fixtures were installed on the façades. All lighting equipment is controlled using the DALI protocol.
In the category The Best Outdoor Lighting Design Concept, the second place went to Vilen Vereshchagin’s project, VilsWorks –
the Architectural lighting concept for pavilion No. 15 “Volga Region” at VDNKh, designed with the INTILED equipment. The main objective of the concept was to achieve a balance between different lighting techniques. The intricate façade decorated with stained glass windows, sculptural groups, high reliefs, cascades, as well as the functional features of the pavilion and the need to use different lighting scenarios (everyday lighting and festive lighting) determined the choice of equipment and its controls system.
We congratulate all the winners and participants of this prestigious competition and are glad to see a large number of highly competitive projects!
