Night of Museums is an international event held every year in 42 European countries and dedicated to the International Museum Day. For the first time the event took place in Berlin in 1997.
In fact unexpected discoveries, amazing transformations and transfigurations happen in halls of museums too. It is the metamorphoses that became the leitmotif of Night of Museums 2018. On the night of May 19th to 20th over 110 galleries, libraries, exhibition and concert halls prepared nighttime and evening programs for visitors in Saint Petersburg. That night the Saint Petersburg Court Chapel showed 12 metamorphoses of art. On the stage of the oldest Russian musical institution the visitors could see the changes of the ancient chaconne dance, watch a pantomime and listen to a restored organ, brass orchestra and musical compositions for 23 string instruments. They could enjoy music of Romanticism and classical crossover genre. The metamorphoses of fine arts were accompanied by the lighting design masterpieces created in the Chapel by IntiLED company.
In the concert hall the IntiLINE series linear luminaires functioned in synchrony with the melodies played in a reverse chronological order from the 20th century to the 18th century showing changes of artistic language. The Tsar's Pavilion had a new look on the Night of Museums. IntiSTARK and IntiRAY series RGB spotlights also changed color in rhythm with the music making the facade turn blue, red or purple. The visitors passing through the courtyard of the Chapel could see the color metamorphoses of the building windows.
Continuing the theme, IntiLED light designers created an installation in the lobby of the main entrance. Light passing through color filters of a fancy lampshade transformed into beautiful patterns and designs on the walls.
Night of Museums 2018 united more than 117 museums, galleries, exhibition halls and libraries in Saint Petersburg. The event was attended by over 95,000 people.
