Reflections in Gatchina Park

In the evening of August the 16th Gatchina Palace Park is again opening its doors for guests of the International Festival of light art “Night of Light”. Its programme includes demonstration of light art objects and interactive installations created by artists from Russia, Latvia, Italy, and Great Britain; a video-mapping contest and a superb light-fireworks show. It’s already the third year in a row that IntiLED supports this major light event in Saint Petersburg. Such extensive events are the source of inspiration for our team.
In 2019 the Festival theme is closely related to the main keynote of Saint Petersburg — water. Water is the element comprising the maximum number of states and qualities. Water is both the unfathomed deeps and a surface mirror.
Light-installation contest theme “Reflections” also echoes with water. Contestants will create 18 art objects on the territory of Gatchina Park whereby representing their own vision of “reflections”. Artists, light designers, students, and design studios from Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Izhevsk, Milan, and Edinburgh are among the participants of the event. Light will become the primary medium of expression, but at that contestants will use live music and elements of performance. This year’s theme was especially liked by IntiLED’s light designers — they will present their installation-speculation “Everything is (un)important” in the beyond-contest programme.
Owing to Lantern Park’s project held for already the second time within the scope of “Night of Light”, both professionals and newcomers can participate in the Festival. Master classes were held at Gatchina city children's library and at the Finnish Institute in Saint Petersburg.  Over 50 residents of Saint Petersburg and Gatchina took part in the workshops. “My favourite book” was the topic of “Lantern park” project last year. The participants addressed their favourite stories and, while creating light fittings, presented literary characters, magical subjects or events. There have been over 40 light art objects created at the master classes. A ship with crimson sails from a novel of Alexander Grin, magical cloudlets, the Magician's hat and a comet from fairy tales of Tove Jansson are among them. All created art objects will become a part of the exposition “Night of Light” in Gatchina Park.
Guests of the Festival will also be able to see a plastic-shadow stage play “The Little Mermaid”, a performance “A ticket to the near space”, a puppet-plastic stage play “Eloi and Morlocks” and much more.
A video-mapping Stream displayed on the Venus pavilion facade by a special guest of the beyond-contest programme, namely Sila Sveta company, as well as a fireworks show over Beloye Lake are going to become a culmination of the Festival.
