The lighting design practical workshop «
We love light» arranged by IntiLED in cooperation with
LiDS Lighting Design School was completed in Abrau-Dyurso.
During two days, the participants created their own unique lighting facilities in the territory of the old Abrau-Dyurso champagne and wine factory under the guidance of experienced coaches.
Sergey Siziy, the founder of LiDS Lighting Design School, and Ulyana Vinogradova, the head of the lighting design department of IntiLED, started the workshop with the theoretical foundation, telling the participants about the main lighting techniques, all stages of project development and capabilities of the lighting equipment provided for the workshop by IntiLED,
ALEDO and
Wieland Electric Rus. Each team was provided with conventional medium and high power spotlights, linear lamps, wall luminaires, contour lighting and media facade devices, as well as a large set of auxiliary equipment for mounting and creating lighting effects.
The participants started the development of their own projects with the discussion and creation of concepts, selection of the necessary equipment. Then they carried out field simulation at the large facade section of the old factory with columns, window apertures and flights of stairs. The final stage included the placement and connection of equipment at the facilities.
Two interesting lighting concepts were implemented by the workshop participants. The winning concept was inspired by the history of Abrau.
The participants paid particular attention to the brand and the range of wines produced. It is this place where the distinguished agronomists and sparkling wine makers, special geographical and climatic conditions allow to grow the grape varieties imported from France that are used for champagne production in Champagne province.
Abrau Wine House is famous for its three wine varieties, each having its own color palette. The developers created their lighting scenarios based on the very color palette.
At sunset, the color range corresponding to rich red and amber tints is switched on; at night the back lighting corresponding to dense pink tints prevails; at dawn the facade lights up with airy light warm colors. Thus, the concept promotes the Abrau-Dyurso wine brand through the appropriate transfer of emotional and visual images.
Members of the second team decided to focus its concept not on the history of the factory but on the visual image of the building. The patterned brick laying, a long staircase (100 steps are passed to get into the building) evoked the image of a fairy castle in which the princess awaits her savior. The Disney’s Rapunzel blue castle was chosen as a prototype by the participants. The lighting scenario is cyclic and tells a story: first, the door is illuminated to show that somebody entered the castle, then the whole facade lights up with blue, and finally, we see the light in the window.
Both teams received valuable prizes from IntiLED and LiDS, and, first and foremost, they acquired bright experience and genuine emotions.
See you soon!
