About the object
The Avala office buildings are a captivating architectural solution that combines functionality and perfect style with geometrically precise forms. The office block visible from all sides was inspired by distant planets, which is reflected in the futuristic style of the building. The building resembles a space shuttle made of glass and metal and is located at the transportation hub of Tallinn — between two connections of city highways.
Lighting Ideas and Objectives
The architects wanted the Avala to be a sculptural rather than a classic high-rise structure that stands out from the highway architecture. For this purpose, a modern facade solution was used — glass with integrated metal structures, whose reflection "smoothes out" the routine rhythm of the floors. The main objective of the lighting is to support the architects' idea. Preserving the special rhythm of the building by highlighting the structure of the object.
Project implementation
The accent lighting of the metal facade elements is the dominant feature of the lighting concept, which was realized using #EDGE RGBW lightings. A total of 132 fixtures were installed on the end parts of the object, providing a spectacular visual contrast to the mirrored panels of the building. The features of the toroidal optics of the fixtures helped us to avoid unwanted lighting effects, which is also extremely important since the project involves both office and residential premises.
The lightings are controlled using the DMX-512 protocol.
