The River Boat Station's building in Perm is an architectural monument, and in 2016 it was decided to restore its historical appearance.
The River Boat Station was built in 1940 by the famous architect Alexander Grinberg. The Station is located on the lower terrace of the Kama bank opposite Perm I, another architectural monument and the railway station. Thus, the problem of transferring passengers from one transport to another was successfully solved. By its size, comfort and architectural design, the station was second best in the USSR after the Northern River Boat Station in Moscow.
The entire size of the River Boat Station's building is divided into three parts: the central part – lobby, ticket hall, and restaurant; the left wing – waiting room, and a hotel; and the right wing that housed the Kama shipping services. The middle part of the building is highlighted by the arcade and a wide main staircase. The volume occupied by the hotel and waiting room had large glazed planes of the walls and a deep loggia-balcony. This gave the building airiness and made it look like a steamer.
Since 1991, people started leasing the station's area to merchants, its designs were destroyed, altered. The 2016 started a reconstruction, during which the stucco was refurbished, marble columns and mosaic floors were polished, the pattern of caissonized ceilings was restored, the facade of the building was repaired.
A year later, in August 2017, the modern LED lighting system of IntiLED was installed on the facade of the River Boat Station. The mood of the concept is dictated by the very architecture of the building, aged within the framework of the Stalinist Empire style. Since this style does not assume a wide variety of colors, the concept is made using neutral white light, which is equally well combined with the white and yellow color of the facade. A laconic lighting design project creates a memorable evening shape of the station and emphasizes its status. A rhythmic light pattern is created by the IntiLINE and IntiSTARK light devices installed on the pilaster capitals. Thirty 100 cm long 60° luminaries of the IntiLINE series are fixed in the upper part of the capitals and shine upright, visually drawing them out. Sixty-six 30° narrow optics floodlights of the IntiSTARK series are located in the base of the capitals and shine downright. The luminous flux of each IntiSTARK device is 2300 lm. Another 36 IntiLINE devices with a 30° glow angle and 60 and 100 cm lengths are installed at the level of the second floor. The created lighting system expressively emphasizes the architectural elements of the station and creates a single light ensemble.
The project uses 112 pieces of lighting equipment. The total power consumption of the entire lighting system of the River Boat Station is 3.8 kW.
The author of the design project is Mikhail Toshchakov.
