The Exhibition of Achievements in National Economy (abbreviated VDNH in Russian) is the largest exhibition, museum and recreational complex in the world and one of the Russian capital's most popular social spaces. In Spring of 2014 the Moscow Government began implementing a large-scale project to renovate the Exhibition, in commemoration of its 75th anniversary.
When in the fall of 2016 it was time to remodel the lighting system, it turned out that there were luminaires preserved in the complex that were made in the Stalinist Gothic style, albeit almost each one in critical condition. So the unique reflected-light luminaires made in the 1950s, located near the famous Friendship of the Peoples fountain, did not operate prior to restoration, and looked more like dilapidated pillars.
The luminaires lacked individual parts, so in order to authentically restore the mounting arms, luminaire bases and fixtures, the architects had to manufacture the lost fragments using archived blueprints and photographs.
In the Soviet times the luminaires employed multi-colored light tubes. Fully in tune with the original design, they were replaced with modern 130 cm long LED IntiTUBE luminaires, 9 for each pillar, as well as IntiSPOT luminaires for the crown. Now, just like in old photographs, you can see the luminaire's "candle" glowing with fully neutral white light, while IntiTUBEs, hidden behind the cover vertically along the entire height of the pillar, remain concealed. Overall, 46 luminaires were installed.
