International Festival "Circle of Light” has put a twist on the capital for five days
On September 23, an opening ceremony of the International Festival “Circle of Light” that has turned Moscow into the capital of light for five days took place. The festival that has been carried out for the seventh time is one of the world’s largest light festivals that gather millions of guests and participants.
In 2017, surroundings of Ostankino Ponds, Tsaritsyno Park, Theatre Square, Stroginskaya Poyma and Mir Theatre and Concert Hall served as venues for specialists who work in the area of audio and visual art.
The opening ceremony took place near the Ostankino Tower and was commemorated on its 50th anniversary. Thanks to 3D mapping, TV tower was turning into the Eiffel Tower, then into a Dubai skyscraper Burj-Khalifa and into the New York Empire State Building as well as into Toronto, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sidney’s TV towers.
In the course of the festival, large-scale video projections were deployed on all the fest venues, and the light installation lit up the streets, while light, laser, and firework multimedia shows poured bright emotions over the spectators. The fest directors decided not limited themselves just with light and pyrotechnics and arranged an ice rink right in the middle of the Indian summer in September at the Ostankino pond.

Tsaritsyno Open-Air Museum became the festival’s most visited venue. Nearly two million guests have visited the park in five days during the Circle of Light.
In Tsaritsyno, a group of light designers Create Light Everyday, by using IntiLED equipment, prepared Light Puzzle project, consisting of two installations OWN SPACE and RAIN DROPS.
According to the СLE, OWN SPACE embodied a point of attraction for people in a natural environment. To bring the concept to life, 100 cm IntiLINE luminaries were used. The name of the second installation, RAIN DROPS, explains its concept: raindrops frozen up in the air.
Glass incandescent lamp bulbs with cut off bases filled with water were used as a DIY material. The entire structure was placed at a five-meter height between four trees used as supports. The composition was lit with the use of four IntiLINE series RGB luminaries. Thanks to ray refraction, an effect of multiple re-reflection and light play were achieved that transformed the dark forest space.
2 more installations, MUSHROOM GLADE and VINYL MAPPING, were an experiment and result of joint efforts of the CLE and students from the Lighting Engineering Department of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.
