About the building
St. Sahak and Mesrop Church named after the inventors of the Armenian alphabet was founded in Krasnodar in the autumn of 2007. In 4 years the church was consecrated and opened to the parishioners.  The church building meets all the canons and traditions of the Armenian architecture: cone-shaped dome, walls of Armenian pink tuff, simple interior of the church without murals, frescoes and gilding. Only one of the courtyard walls is decorated with letters of the Armenian alphabet as a constant reminder of the deeds of Sahak and Mesrop.
In 2017 the Russian and Novo-Nakhichevan Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church solemnly celebrated its 300th anniversary. The architectural and art lighting project of St. Sahak and Mesrop Church was implemented to commemorate this date.
Lighting concept and goals
The lighting in this project was aimed at the maximum highlighting of the silhouette of the church and its individual architectural elements. This technique was used by the light designers to emphasize the uniqueness of the Armenian architecture.
Project implementation
The warm white color with a temperature of 3000 K was chosen for the lighting of the temple: classic for this kind of structures harmoniously combined with the warm pink color of the facade tuff cladding.
To implement the project, the most compact and friendly lighting devices were chosen, using IntiSLIM and IntiROLL luminaires, which are very difficult to see on the facade during the daytime.
The accent luminaires of IntiSLIM series with cases of various lengths highlight the facade laconic geometry being the main feature of the Armenian architecture and also create even illumination of the church’s ornaments. Because of their compact size, the luminaires are invisible on the facade.
The symmetrical cruciform church is surmounted with a huge dome. In the evening it is accentuated with the use of compact spotlights of IntiROLL series with a luminescence angle of 30° and IntiSLIM series.
All the IntiSLIM luminaires in the project have 45x18° oval optics making it possible to produce even illumination of the facade decor.
The combination of accent lighting techniques and professional equipment installation made it possible to create a laconic design that blends in harmoniously with the overall style of religious buildings.
