Magic gardens in the heart of Moscow
In August, Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh) turned into a blooming garden in the framework of the IV Moscow International Festival of Landscape Art and Horticulture “Gardens and People”.
More than 30 landscape designers from around the world presented their gardens and art objects, united by the topic “Contrasts in the Garden”. By the example of the contest works, the guests of the festival got acquainted with new trends in design, and international jury headed by Michel Pena – the author of the concept of the landscape park of the VDNKh – chose the best of the best.
“The Modern Garden of the Jurassic Period” was recognized as the winner in the “Large gardens” category. In their work, the project authors recreated and harmonically combined two completely different worlds – ancient forest and birch grove. The winners of 2017 also included the projects “Cache”, “Memory of the Sky” and the art object “I died under Rzhev...” This year the festival visitors could also evaluate the beauty and importance of landscape lighting.

The partners of the festival - LiDS Lighting Design School together with IntiLED - transformed the gardens during the evening time.
LiDS developed an unusual lighting concept for the whole festival territory. The author of the concept - a graduate of the lighting design school, Irina Lebedeva - suggested an idea based on the rainbow image: the unity of the conflicting color spectrum, symbolizing the festival topic. Thanks to the equipment provided by IntiLED, the color harmony was brought to life. Closer to the entrance, the trees are lit by cold shades - blue and light blue, passing into magenta.
Deepening into the park and approaching the warm amber lantern light, the color of the lighting of the trees also warms and takes the shades from green to orange and red. Thus, the conceptual festival lighting performs not only an aesthetic function, but also divides the territory into color areas, which makes it easy to orientate at night time.
