On October 16, 2014 there was completed installation of a temporary lighting system using IntiLED equipment at Saint Petersburg Stadium, also referred to as Krestovsky Stadium and Zenit Arena, the largest stadium in the Eastern Europe. 30 powerful IntiSTARK series RGB floodlights were installed around the stadium bowl (about 1 km in diameter).
The selection of oval optics 10x50° and fine adjustment reduced the number of luminaires and the overall power consumption of the lighting system while the high protection class IP66 ensured the effective use of the lighting fixtures in a dusty environment. The equipment is controlled via DMX-512 protocol using a personal computer. A similar type of control was used in the dynamic illumination project for Adler Arena speed skating center in Sochi. The modern control system makes it possible to create an infinite number of lighting scenarios. Two modes were selected for Zenit Arena: smooth play of blue-white-light blue brand colors as the main scenario and full-color dynamic illumination as an additional option for weekends and holidays. The lighting system was mounted on temporary supports that can be moved if necessary.
City residents will be able to see colorful night views of the stadium from the water and a few viewing points, namely Cities Friendship Alley on Krestovsky Island, Seaside Promenade on Vasilyevsky Island and 300-Year Anniversary Park. Project development, delivery and installation of equipment were performed by Transstroy Corporation OJSC. Zenit Arena is the largest multipurpose stadium in the Eastern Europe that will host matches of FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 and FIFA World Cup 2018. The stadium will seat 68 thousand spectators at sporting events and 80 thousand spectators at concerts. It is planned that the stadium will be one of the most technologically advanced sports facilities in Europe. The retractable roof will make it possible to host events throughout the year and the special design of the pull-out football field system will ensure the good condition of the football field grass and maintain its maximum quality when mass cultural events are held.
