In 2026, an architectural lighting project was completed for the YUGRA Hotel in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The building's facade features a complex rhythm of windows, wall sections and projecting architectural frames. The lighting design was developed to reveal this geometry after dark while introducing the possibility of changing the building's colour scheme.
The concept was created by InsertDesign Lighting Studio in collaboration with the client's architect. InsertDesign was responsible for lighting design and calculations, luminaire selection and supply, development and commissioning of the lighting control system, as well as installation supervision.
The permanent architectural lighting is based on INTILED TWIN up-and-down luminaires installed on the main facade. Their upward and downward beams create distinct vertical accents, highlighting the arrangement of windows, wall sections and projecting architectural elements. Warm white light contrasts with darker surfaces, revealing the facade's depth and preserving the visual coherence of the architecture after dark.
A second layer of the lighting scheme is provided by INTILED IntiSTARK RGB floodlights mounted on poles in front of the building's main facade. This arrangement provides coloured flood lighting, creating a distinct layer of colour that complements the permanent architectural accents.
The lighting control system allows the facade’s colour scheme to change from blue and turquoise to green, red and purple, creating different lighting scenarios for festive and themed events. Meanwhile, warm white light continues to accentuate the building’s architectural features.
Particular attention was given to the entrance area, where INTILED LACE flexible light lines are recessed into the ceiling. Their warm, soft light creates a welcoming atmosphere and provides a visual transition between the building and its surrounding outdoor space.
By combining permanent architectural accents with programmable coloured lighting, the project offers different ways to present the same building. In everyday use, the lighting emphasises the facade geometry and gives the hotel a restrained appearance. For special occasions, dynamic colour scenarios introduce a more expressive character without obscuring the original architectural composition.
