At the end of 2014, a 24-meter sculpture of a gladiator, a symbol of the Spartak Football Club, was erected on the square in front of the Otkritie Arena Stadium. Illumination for the monument was provided by IntiLED. Bronze Spartak became the visual dominant of the square not only due to its impressive size. An outstanding image emphasizes the unusual base in the shape of a truncated pyramid. The choice of color is not accidental: it is associated with the symbols of the Spartak Football Club and echoes the combined red-and-white cladding of the facade of the stadium. The author of the panel, the mosaicist Anatoly Chelyshev, used a complex pattern of rectangular and square elements, which are co-scaled to each other, in different shades of red, from dark to light. This technique allowed not only creating a unified color image, well discernible even from distant points, but introducing the illusion of color gamma vibration. This dynamic effect is emphasized by the illumination system installed at the base of the pyramid. 64 IntiLINE luminaires of red color spectrum with oval optics of 10x50° were manufactured for the project. They evenly “perfuse” all the faces of the pyramid. Edges of the structure are additionally highlighted with IntiTOP 12-degree spotlights, which are red as well. The dramatic bottom-up lighting technique used in the project literally sets the base afire and makes the hero's figure even more striking. Design, delivery, and installation of equipment are by the Spektor Lab Company. The sculptor is by Aleksandr Rukovishnikov.
