Russia's first hockey museum was opened on May 6 in Moscow, alongside with the beginning of the hockey World Championship 2016. The project was long-awaited and boasts a grand scale: it was designed based on the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto. Among over 2.5 thousand exhibits the fans will be able to find Vsevolod Bobrov's skates, Vladislav Tretyak's glove, Anatoly Tarasov's whistle and Valery Kharlamov's mitts. The interactive area will give them an opportunity to join the team of famous hockey players. History enthusiasts will find out more about Viktor Tikhonov's infamous "Red Machine".
The museum space is divided into several areas: the "Getting to Know Hockey" hall, the "Hockey History" hall and the movie zone. The museum's central spot is dedicated to the Hall of Fame of Russian Hockey. It is intended as the location for induction ceremonies into the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame and other official events.
The Hall is primarily decorated in the style of Stalinist Gothic, one of the leading trends in architecture, monumental and ornamental art of USSR since mid-1940s till mid-1950s. That is when hockey originated in our country. The Hall's lighting system comprises multi-level and functional highlighting. The illumination of carnices and bass reliefs is provided via IntiSLIM-series compact linear luminaires. Neutral white light (4000 K) delicately emphasizes the white walls, the vaulting and the ornamental elements, while the luminaires themselves remain discreet.
Overhead lighting is augmented by 10 30-degree IntiROLL spotlights concealed in the structure of the ceiling chandelier. The key role in the Hall is played by interactive modules. They host the nameplates of 147 honorary members: famed players, trainers, organizers and judges. The modules are lit indoors with IntiRAY and IntiROLL spotlights with 30- and 60-degree optics. One of the lighting system's most important intended features was its ability to integrate with the joint system managing light, sound and video as a whole. All the equipment used in the project is controlled via the DMX-512 protocol. This enabled us to create a smart lighting system coordinated with the sound and visual sequences, with support for different operation scenarios: exhibition viewing mode, special event mode, and more.
The equipment was designed and supplied by MDM-Light.
The museum is located within the Legends Park sports facility complex, the main ice arena hosting the 2016 World Championship. The project was spearheaded by the Legends of Hockey club and is run with support from the Russian Hockey Federation. One of the museum's important goals is to preserve the cultural and historic heritage of hockey in the USSR and Russian Federation, to nurture the sense of patriotism on the example of sports achievements of our compatriots and to involve the younger generation in sports. The museum of hockey fame's first visitors will be the spectators of the 2016 World Championship.
